Happy New Year and welcome back to Lunch with Liz. I thought at this stage (with most people back at work), I would be launching into a new round of lunches, with fascinating people and tantalising Queensland eateries; but such is my life, I’m off on an adventure, with no access to the internet or social media (GASP) for at least the next month. I know, I know, how will I survive without Instagram? It’s going to be a struggle.
‘Lunches’ will be back towards the end of Feb, with the next ‘big thing’ in Queensland sports, Netballer, Gretel Tippett.
I couldn’t take off though, without at least saying hello in 2016… and letting you in on my latest beauty tip.
On this adventure, I won’t be wearing any makeup for the whole time I’m away. No big deal really. Actually it quite excites me. Although I am used to wearing A LOT of make up for work and I will be on camera, so there is a little bit of me vainly wanting to look at least somewhat presentable.
So, I called in the big guns. Dr Angela Richardson from Coz Medics, Kenmore, in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, Tahlia Cusack, from the Lotus Institute Coolangatta.
I’ve posted about some of the treatments I’ve done with Tahlia before, so if you’ve subscribed to Lunch with Liz (add your email right hand side – no advertisements, commercials or spam sent out I swear) you may have read them.
This time, Tahlia put me on to an incredible new product Uber Zinc by Synergie Skin. You can use this overnight, as well as during the day. I honestly would never recommend anything unless I truly believe you’ll love it as much as me. This product offers incredible sun protection, while being light, non-greasy and hydrating, with anti-ageing ingredients. I also had a series of Microdermabrasion’s – Lotus Institute are running a deal at the moment – $99 for a Microdermabrasion facial which includes the works.
Now Dr Angela Richardson is a go-to for many television hosts in Brisbane and when I presented her with the news that I had to get my skin in the best condition possible for nearly a month away, working on camera, with no make up or facial creams, she said “right, two rounds of CUTERA Limelight IPL treatments are a must before you go”.
I was hesitant to have IPL on my face, because of a past experience (at another clinic) where the technician had the machine on the wrong setting and not only removed my sunspots (those little brown facial patches, that can be caused by hormones as well as sun damage – I get them across my forehead and cheekbones, many other woman get them on their upper lip and chin), she also removed the tan off my face, the result being a mess of white patches.
I told Dr Ange about this incident, but she swore to me black and blue that this treatment, when done correctly, is her absolute favourite for visible results and perfecting your skin.
I would see the removal of darker spots on my face and a change in my skin, to a creamy, even, glowing complexion, with some natural collagen stimulation to plump fine lines. The type of skin you’re so confident in, you don’t want to cover it with lotions and potions (also known as foundation and concealer).
The laser itself is uncomfortable, but absolutely bearable. I had it without any kind of numbing cream or pain relief. Following it, you feel hot for a few hours and look red in the face, but soon enough you’ve forgotten all about it …. until you look in a mirror! I woke up the next day looking like someone had flicked dirt all over my face! See photos below.
It was easy to cover with make up, so you don’t have to worry about taking any time off work. Your skin can be quite flakey, so you’ll need to keep it hydrated and Dr Ange will give you the right creams for this.
Over the next few days the dirty looking flecks crumbled off to reveal a much more even complexion of smooth, clear skin.
“Ryan” I asked, “do I look younger to you”? You can count on your husband for an honest answer, “yeah actually your skin looks really shiny”. Shiny is good when you’re 32.
Over the next few weeks I lost count of the number of people who said to me, “your skin is looking really good”.
I’m off on an adventure with no make up packed (which is so weird for me) feeling ok, no actually, feeling good. When you’re happy with your skin it really does build your confidence. My beauty tip – I am sold on Limelight IPL, but it really is important to see someone who knows how to administer it. If you’re in Brisbane, go and see Dr Angela Richardson at Coz Medics, Kenmore. IPL costs $350 per a treatment with only one to two required… and her humour comes for free.
Right, now I’m off to the Brow Bar in Paddington for a wax and tint! See you next month (hopefully).
